The use of generative AI platforms for mental wellbeing support is growing rapidly, despite most of these systems not being designed or governed for this purpose. As a result, well-intentioned use can introduce unintended harm.
General conversational agents such as ChatGPT are optimised to provide answers quickly and sustain engagement, keeping users on the platform to maximise interaction and data generation. Companion AI platforms, like Replika, take a different approach but with similar risks, explicitly encouraging emotional attachment and dependency through persistent, personalised interaction.
FOLQ.ai sits deliberately between these two models. Rather than instantly delivering answers or fostering reliance, FOLQ is designed to guide users toward discovering their own insights while maintaining a level of personalisation and presence that ensures the experience is genuinely supportive.

FOLQ is designed as a contextual AI - bringing together the depth and reliability of knowledge-driven conversational systems like ChatGPT and Gemini, with the presence and continuity people associate with companion-style AI such as Replika and Character.ai. Where most AI systems lean heavily in one direction, either transactional intelligence or emotional engagement, FOLQ is intentionally designed to sit between them. It is informed, reflective, and responsive, while remaining grounded in real-world context rather than fantasy, role-play, or performance-driven interaction.
By human context, we mean more than remembering facts or preferences. FOLQ is designed to understand why someone is asking, not just what they are asking. Instead of delivering answers as endpoints, it helps users explore their own thinking, guiding reflection, surfacing patterns, and supporting people to arrive at insights themselves.
